Every year, we hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This is the chance for every member of the club to have a say in how we’re run. It’s also an opportunity to find out what happened in the last year, and what’s happening next year!

This year’s AGM is on Sunday 24th August 2025 at our usual Arch 12 venue, starting at 10am. If you want to join us, please register your attendance in advance. You can take part by following the links below.

Questions and Answers

Why do we have an AGM?

It is a founding principle of LHFC that we’re run by our members, so having an AGM is written into our constitution. Members can make their views felt in three ways. Firstly, by voting on motions and suggesting amendments. Second, by voting in committee elections. Thirdly by standing for an elected position themselves.

What Happens

Every AGM is different, but there are three main activities.

  • First, the Committee reports on how the year has gone, and we all vote to approve the annual accounts. This is important to ensure the club is accountable for its finances.
  • Next, we discuss and vote on ‘motions’. These are a way for club members to clearly express our opinions. With a few exceptions, resolutions (i.e. a motion that has passed) aren’t binding but they’re taken very seriously by the Committee.
  • Finally, we vote in our new elected officers. These are the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as at least one Trustee.

We also have a pizza lunch (provided by the club), and free sparring after the AGM concludes. Those who want to then repair to a local pub for the rest of the evening.

This year the fantastic Lambert and Lambert will also have a table with a selection of antique swords for show and tell (and purchase!)

What will we be voting on?

You can find a list of proposed motions on this page here:

Once nominations open, all candidates for election will have their details listed on this page here

I want to stand for election, what should I do?

This year the elections are being run by an Electoral Commission. Candidates have between 10th August and 21s August to register. You can do so on this page which has more details on how this works.

I have an idea for a motion, what should I do?

You can submit motions using a form linked from this page. To be considered, your motion must have two sponsors – i.e. yourself and another member. It must also be clear, legal and not vexatious or frivolous. While we’ll try to get through all the motions that are submitted, ultimately it is at the Chair of the AGM’s discretion as time is limited.

How can I find out more about how the club is run?

LHFC is governed by our constitution, which you can find here.

You can also find out more about how we’re run on the Charity Commissions’ website here.
