Learn fencing and swordfighting in London with London Historical Fencing Club. We’re a volunteer-led registered charity (CIO 1200898) with our own permanent venue between Vauxhall and Nine Elms.
What is Historical Fencing?
Unlike the fencing you see at the Olympics, we use realistically-weighted swords and historical techniques taken straight from translations of medieval, renaissance, and early modern texts. If you want to fight like a knight or pirate, this is the hobby for you.
Historical fencing isn’t a codified sport like modern fencing. This means there’s a much wider variety of experiences you can get, from representing us in international tournaments, diving deep into historical research, or just casual fencing in our club.
Unlike LARP or re-enactment, historical fencing is at its core about the techniques. Our instructors are among the top-rated fencers in the country, and have decades’ worth of experience combined. Get fit, learn swordfighting, and ultimately have fun!

Get Started
We’ve got a variety of different beginners classes running at any time. You can join any of these without needing to email us. Once you’ve done a beginners class in a weapon, you’ll then attend the regular classes for that weapon.
We’re a volunteer-run, accessible and queer-friendly organisation. We’re open to everyone, and all students and members are expected to follow our Code of Conduct. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us!
