It’s late at night and an unwary traveller is winding their way across Kennington Common, heading towards London. Suddenly, their way is blocked by a group of cloaked ne’erdowells rising from the shadows, their faces shrouded and their drawn swords glittering in the moonlight! The leader steps forward, their hand outstretched for the traveller’s nervously proffered coin purse…

Fundraising certainly was easier back the day, but the Charity Commission would probably have some stern things to say if we tried actual highway robbery. Instead, we are going to trust to your generosity!

Why should I donate?

This summer LHFC is hoping to raise at least £10,000* by Monday 14th July 2025.

Excitingly, we have secured a generous anonymous donor who has agreed to double every £1 donated during this campaign, up to £5,000! This means that by donating to this campaign, your money can go much further! In fact, with gift aid, for every £10 donated, we can potentially receive a total of £25!

These funds will officially be ‘unrestricted’ this means they can be used for anything that furthers the club’s charitable objectives. This potentially includes upgrades to the hall such as sound-muffling and better flooring, replacing worn out fencing gear, and fronting the money needed for fun events, workshops and tournaments. It will also help ensure the club has sufficient reserves to absorb financial shocks and demonstrate to other funders that our finances are in goods shape.

Success begets success and the more we raise, the more we can do!

*plus gift aid, which could be up to another £2,500

But what do I get?

So, you want a more… tangible incentive? Well, for those prepared to make a particularly significant donation we are able to show our appreciation with something a bit special!

For illustration purposes, actual design may vary

The first 20 people to donate £150 or more will receive an exclusive, genuine silver, signet ring, lovingly designed by one of our very own fencers. These rings will be limited edition, with this design only available for this campaign! If signet rings aren’t your thing, we will also offer a silver pendant as an alternative. We will aim to deliver these rings within 6 weeks of the close of the campaign, or earlier if possible.

Will these rings and pendants bestow their owners with great fencing prowess, bring victory in tournaments and lead to deep insights? Might wearing them even open portals to the past, enabling conversation with the great fencing masters of history? We don’t know! But there’s one way to find out…….

ETA: As of 09:30 on 11th June, there were only 4 rings remaining to be claimed!

Who can donate?

This campaign is of course open to everyone – not just club members. LHFC has meant a huge amount to people over the years. We’d be incredibly grateful if members friends and family wanted to chip in! We’d love it if other HEMAists from across the globe wanted to help us out! It’d also be amazing to get donations from people who just like to support brilliant community charities like ours!

I want to donate regularly

Fabulous. Regular donations are immensely helpful to any charity, and any donations made for the duration of this campaign will be doubled by our generous match donor – up to their agreed total. If you want to set up a regular donation, you can on this page:

I want to donate a large amount

That’s brilliant, and may we say how tremendously intelligent, good looking and generally fantastic you are? If you want to donate a really large amount, that is, £1,000 or more, you are very welcome to do so through the website, but we understand that you might want to find out a bit more about us first. If so, please contact us and our fundraising officer will be more than happy to discuss your donation.

Can I gift aid my donation

Yes! LHFC is currently registering for gift aid, so if you’re a UK tax-payer, we will be able to claim an additional 25% on top of your donation – costing you nothing at all! All you have to do is sign up for gift aid when you donate using the form.
